Position Description/Summary:
Installs and operates server operating systems software, including Windows Server and other server operating systems as required, running on either physical or virtual platforms, in a secure network environment. The System Administrator/Manager is also responsible for ensuring that servers are secure and performing optimally. He/she shall have experience installing, monitoring and optimizing systems, systems software, peripherals, and networks devices. He/she shall be skilled in creating user objects, creating administration scripts and batch files, running systems backups, and resolving systems problems. 
  • Provide technical assistance for the installation and upgrading of new and existing file and print servers, application servers, and software. 
  • Maintain computer rooms, telecommunications closets, and network centers in a clean and orderly manner.
  • Respond to service requests related to problems with file servers, communication servers, print servers, and other network devices such as switches and routers.
  • Perform system maintenance in accordance with established procedures.
  • Be responsible for the creation, setup, and management of network user accounts; including meeting security plan requirements.
  • Perform maintenance/upgrades on systems hardware/software as necessary. This may require working outside normal duty hours. Prior to performing any after hour maintenance, approval must be obtained from Government personnel.
  • Perform system backups and restores utilizing the appropriate backup software and archival maintenance as required, and on an emergency basis.
  • Install and operate server operating systems software, including Windows Server and other server operating systems as required, running on either physical or virtual platforms, in a secure network environment. 
  • Responsible for ensuring that servers are secure and performing optimally, as well as installing, monitoring and optimizing systems, systems software, peripherals, and networks devices. 
  • Create administration scripts and batch files to automate processes or generate reports as requested.
Minimum Position Requirements:
Shall have at least four (4) years' experience and one of the certifications listed below.
  • At least 4 years of experience in Windows 2008/2012 Server Administration.
  • Proficient/knowledgeable in Windows Servers running as a Domain Controller supporting Active Directory and DNS.
  • Knowledge and/or experience in networking, tape backups and backup policies, batch files, PowerShell scripting, and troubleshooting tools.
  • Experience in IT security assurance in accordance with DOT and OMB directives, based on FISMA, including the Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS) and NIST Standards for system hardening, reporting, vulnerability scanning and remediation, implementing security controls, disaster recovery, off-site storage management, and complying with security measures based on the Windows 2008/2012 security baseline guide. 
  • VMware vSphere System Architect and Administration: Experience with VMWare vSphere 5.5 and above, including performing P2V server migrations, virtual networking, ESXi host patching and system upgrades, maintaining, monitoring, and troubleshooting system issues, and performing system backups and disaster recovery tasks.
  • Active Directory experience including DNS, two-way domain trusts, Group Policy Management, Active Directory Users and Computers (ADUC), LDAP, and others.
Education/Certifications Required by Contract:
The System Administrator/Manager shall have one of the following certifications: MCSE, MCP, CompTIA Network+, CompTIA Security+, CompTIA Server+, VMware VCA, Cisco CCENT/CCNA or ITIL Foundation Certification.
 
Due to the nature of this position only US Citizens who are able to obtain and maintain
a Department of Transportation IT-II clearance will be considered.
